'This reading, by Alan Cumming, lives up to the novel's reputation, by capturing in this taut, psychological thriller the smell and taste of fear - a thoroughly unpleasant experience - but one I would recommend to anyone who enjoys (if that is the right word) a thriller in the serial-killer, savage torture and sexual brutality mode ... three hours listening to a good adaptation (which this is) is a lot quciker than reading the book, and probably a good deal more thrilling.'
