Taking a swipe at stuffiness, this sly collection shows Prelutsky's robust appreciation of the absurd. Humour at its best from one of America's funniest poets. At the farm's karate festival the lambs and mules were tops. The mules excelled at kicking, but the lambs had better chops. Over one hundred hilarious poems from a poet who has created a world where it rains pigs and noodles, hapless Peter turns into a parking meter, it's awkward being taller than the average giraffe and where you should watch out for something lurking deep in the refrigerator. You can meet an underdog who is overweight, dancing hippopotami, sniffing snutterwudds, the world's fastest turtle and Scottish pigs on stilts

Jack Prelutsky has written more than thirty books of verse, edited several enormously popular anthologies (and been extensively anthologized himself), translated a number of books, and is always at work on the poems for at least three future books. He has lived in Boston, Albuquerque and Manhatten, but now lives in Seattle. From AudioFile:
Prelutsky sets selected poems to music in this playfully performed collection. He uses a variety of cheerful, folksy instruments, such as banjo, mandolin, and penny whistle, to augment his pleasant vocals, which bring to mind Pete Seeger's work. Prelutsky's verses are uniquely his own, though, and quite unpredictable. Listeners join him in many adventures--from chasing dragons to misbehaving while parents have the flu. "Perhaps I'll make a mudpie in my sister's stupid hat/attach my mother's earrings to the puppy and the cat." There's a harmonica-backed hiccup number and others about raising a virtual chicken and refusing to eat something disgusting. They're all bound to entertain kids and adults alike. Prelutsky's upbeat music and exuberant wordplay are sure to delight and invigorate his listeners. J.C.G. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine
