When Alice follows a white rabbit down a hole she discovers the extraordinary world of Wonderland, where a magical adventure begins. It's not long before Alice finds herself attending a very unconvential tea party and taking part in a peculiar game of croquet, all in the company of such mysterious and unforgettable characters as the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat and the Mock Turtle.

Lewis Carroll's classic story is brought alive for a new generation of readers in this exquisite picture book.

About the Author:

Emma Chichester Clark studied at the Chelsea School of Art and the Royal College. She won the Mother Goose Award in 1988 as the best newcomer to children's book illustration. Since then she has become internationally known for her illustrations of books by such well-known authors as Margaret Mahy, Roald Dahl and Anne Fine. Her first book for Pavilion was Thumbelina, a sensitive retelling by Jane Falloon of the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. She has just won the Grinzane Junior Award 2000, and is the first-ever winner of this new international children's book award.

Review:
"Emma Chichester Clark's intelligent update of Alice in Wonderland makes it more accessible and less frightening than Lewis Carroll's original, complete with John Tenniel's dark, prickly Victorian pictures. Girls of 5+ should enjoy it." Amanda Craig, The Times "Retold with beautiful, sophisticated illustrations. Perfect for sharing." Sunday Express "This condensed version is ideal for younger readers and Clark's intricate illustrations remain faithful to the spirit of Carroll's cast of crazy madcap characters." Junior "Emma Chichester Clark's intelligent update of Alice in Wonderland makes it more accessible and less frightening than Lewis Carroll's original, complete with John Tenniel's dark, prickly Victorian pictures. Junior Praise for 'Melrose and Croc': 'Full of bright detail, this is a picture book young readers could well dream about as being the next best thing to entering its pages.' The Independent 'A heart-warming tale of how friendships begin! This book is a wonderful tactile experience, from the shimmery glittery cover! to the gentle watercolours inside, which are printed on the creamiest of papers.' The Irish Times 'It delights children but adults will appreciate the period evocation of the festive-season cities and the off-season seaside.' The Sunday Times 'Incredibly touching story.' Primary Times 'You don't have to get too sentimental to find something special! The light in the illustrations makes this book all the more magical.' Junior 'A beautifully illustrated and heart-warming tale.'
