Synopsis

The Great Philosophers is a series of anthologies on individual philosophers. Each volume begins with an authoritative introductory essay by the editor on the life and work of the philosopher, followed by selected key works and a comprehensive bibliography. Paul Edwards is general editor of "The Great Philosophers" as well as "Philosophical Topics," another new Macmillan series. He is the author of The Logic of Moral Discourse, Heidegger and Death, and numerous articles in philosophical periodicals. His four-part series, "The Case against Reincarnation," was recently awarded the Selma Forkosch Prize. He is co-editor (with Arthur Pap) of A Modern Introduction to Philosophy and editor in chief of The Encyclopedia of Philosophy. In 1979 Columbia University awarded him the Nicholas Murray Butler Silver Medal for distinguished contributions to philosophy.
