As an amateur, Miss Black studied weaving as part of an occupational therapy course; later she took an intensive course in Sweden on the theory of advanced weaving. Among the new and unique features of this edition are the directions for the Gobelin Tapestry technique. The first edition of the book told weavers what to do; this edition tells them not only what to do, but why it is done. An entire chapter is devoted to the theory of weaving, enabling weavers to develop new designs from weaving-book samples or to elaborate on those presented. The tapestry section, the bibliography, and the glossary of weaving terms have been enlarged. A special section lists weaving terms in foreign languages, and 658 accurate and clear original photographs illustrate the text of New Key to Weaving."
