From School Library Journal:
Grade 4-6-- McGurk's operatives are time travelling again. This time, the destination is their own hometown 300 years in the past. One of the locals is stirring up a witch-hunting frenzy as part of a scheme to acquire an elderly widow's property. The woman is none other than Gwyneth, whom McGurk and company met and helped on their first trip. The target of the bogus witch-hunt is her goddaughter, who has her own suspicions about the activities of Jacob Peabody. The plot relies heavily on coincidence, but the quick pace and the familiar characters will carry readers over the thin patches. This is a good series for readers ready to move up from Encyclopedia Brown, and McGurk's many fans will welcome his return. --Elaine Fort Weischedel, Turner Free Library, Randolph, MA
