Spencer Rathus earned his Ph.D. in 1972, and has published more than twenty research articles in the areas of psychological disorders, methods of therapy, human growth and development, and psychological assessment. These have appeared in and the JOURNAL OF BEHAVIOR THERAPY AND EXPERIMENTAL PSYCHIATRY). Foremost among his research publications is the RATHUS ASSERTIVENESS SCHEDULE (RAS), which is widely used in research and clinical practice, and which has been referenced frequently in other literature. Rathus is also the author of several best selling textbooks, as well as the trade book BT: BEHAVIOR THERAPY STRATEGIES FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS IN LIVING (Doubleday). Known for his warm and encouraging writing style, Rathus taught at Northeastern University and St. John's University before arriving at his current position at New York University.
