PreS. This companion to Good for You! Toddler Rhymes for Toddler Times (2001) offers very young children 33 short poems to match to their own perspective of the world. The poems and pictures mirror the physical and emotional development of children from birth to about 18 months. A baby's birth is cause for celebration in the title poem "Welcome, Baby!" and "Diaper Song" shows a young baby clutching a rattle as Dad gets ready for a diaper change. Then there are babies sitting up, wiggling toes, playing peek-a-boo, and walking, talking and celebrating a first birthday. The last third of the book is about basic learning skills, "A, B, C"; "1, 2, 3"; and "Red, Green, Yellow, Blue." Many of the poems in this part of the book are noticeably longer, such as "Morning Walk," a lovely selection in which father and son leave sleeping Mom and go for an early morning stroll.
