In this radical approach to psychological wellness, psychotherapist Dr. Warren Berland proves that no matter how stuck you feel or how deep your psychological wounds, you can be free. No training is necessary. It doesn't even have to take a lot of time. In Out of the Box for Life, you are given the keys to a happy, healthy life.
Berland's box is a metaphor for the way many of us live our livestrapped in a prison of our own making. Through a series of remarkably simple exercises, Berland shows readers how to almost immediately break free of their psychological prisons, essentially by taping over that annoying negative voice that plays in many a head on a continuous loop. He demonstrates how to accept that the thoughts and feelings we identify as ourselves, and which we hold so dear, are not us. The feelings of fear, worry, and insecurity reflect a mechanistic response to life rather than an expression of our true self. When we embrace this realization, our emotions lose their power over us.
With his groundbreaking method, Dr. Berland has helped people deal with everything from everyday malaise to anger, eating problems, relationship issues, and illness. The success stories are astonishing. In these pages, you'll meet Larry and Mimi, a couple on the brink of divorce, who got out of the box and became more loving and intimate with each other than ever before. Beth, a woman with cancer, used the method to shift her focus from fear to healing. Mark, a troubled thirty-one-year-old man who had never been in a relationship, saw a love affair blossom.
Berland has been using his short-term, solution-oriented approach to psychotherapy for fifteen yearsand now the public and HMOs are finally catching up. No longer is it necessary to spend years on the couch revisiting old hurts and past traumas. And no longer are insurance companies willing to pick up the tab.
Out of the Box for Life will show you how to find freedom and possibility in each moment. Surrender to this inner knowing and strengthen your resolve, and your confidence will grow. You will also help raise the standard for all humankind. In setting yourself free, you take everyone a step forward. This book represents a true turning point in our quest for wholeness. There is no greater calling and no greater reward.
