About the Author:

Elizabeth Levy loves to tell stories that combine serious issues with humor. She has proven it with her award-winning books for young readers, including My Life As A Fifth-Grade Comedian, Keep Ms. Sugarman In The Fourth Grade, and other best-selling books in the Sam and Robert series, including Frankenstein Moved In On The Fourth Floor and Dracula Is A Pain In The Neck. She lives in New York City.

Stuart J. Murphy, a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, is a visual learning specialist with extensive experience in educational publishing and art direction. He is the author of all the books in the MathStart series. Mr. Murphy lives in Evanston, IL.

George Ulrich has illustrated A Mammoth Mix-up, Rude Rowdy Rumors, and School Spirit Sabotage, all by Elizabeth Levy. Mr. Ulrich lives in Marblehead, MA.

From School Library Journal:
Grade 3-5-Brian and his younger sister, Penny, a.k.a. Pea Brain, have once again become entangled in a mystery. This time, they find a piece of a mammoth's tusk buried in their backyard. However, when they take it to the local museum to display in the student science-fair exhibit, it soon disappears. Like Rude, Rowdy Rumors and School Spirit Sabotage (both HarperCollins, 1994), this title is a light and entertaining read, but it also gives some information about woolly mammoths. Brian and Penny are believable siblings who argue their way through the story. The language, because it is fresh and familiar, will appeal to children. Though the mystery itself isn't very suspenseful, the book does provide interesting, quirky characters with a substantial plot. Humorous full- and half-page black-ink drawings are scattered throughout.
