The authors are former ballet dancers and co-founders of PACH, the Performing Arts Center for Health in New York City. This is a self-help book for the young dancer and her/his parents. Chapters on choosing a school and teacher, auditioning, health care, competition, stress, and planning for the future are aimed at revealing the realities of a dancer's life and providing guidance. The idea behind the book is good, but the information is very generally stated. There are useful tidbits here, but not enough in-depth information on specific topics, e.g., drugs, anorexia, and cosmetic surgery. Not a necessary purchase.
