Synopsis

This brief four-skills text presents only the grammar structures essential for beginning Spanish students and follows a simple chapter sequence. Each lesson is divided into three sections: "Graficos", which presents the chapter's vocabulary and informally introduces grammar, "Gramatica Esencial", which offers concise grammar explanations plus exercises, and "Comunicacion", which includes realia and/or short reading texts, as well as partner/pair activities. Following every third lesson, "Ampliaciones" sections include reading strategies, cultural readings, and self-tests. Instructors manuals, tapes and software are available.

About the Author:

María Canteli Dominicis, Professor of Spanish at St. John's University, New York, was born in Cuba and has been teaching college-level Spanish in the United States since 1961. She holds a degree of Doctora en Filosofía y Letras from the University of Havana and a Ph.D. from New York University. Professor Dominicis is the author of Don Juan en el teatro español del siglo XX and Escenas cotidianas, a textbook for intermediate-level conversation courses. She is a coauthor of a number of college textbooks, including Casos y cosas (an intermediate conversation text),¡En camino! and ¡Adelante! At St. John's University, Professor Dominicis has recently served as chairperson of the Department of Modern Foreign Languages. At the present time, she is the coordinator of the Spanish Division and the director of the language laboratory.
