The chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla have both neuronal and endocrine characteristics. Analysis of the various mechanisms involved in the production of catecholamines is not only of interest in itself, but also acts as a model for neurohumoral transmission. This book summarises current knowledge of the morphological, physiological and pharmacological properties of chromaffin cells, with special emphasis on regulatory mechanisms.
