The publication in 1526 of a modestly priced pocket edition of the New Testament in English is arguably the most important single event in the history of the English Reformation -- and so controversial at the time that Tyndale was tried for heresy, incarcerated, and burned at the stake for translating the Bible into English. Much Tyndale's work was taken over into the 1611 King James ('Authorised') Bible, through which it became known throughout the English-speaking world.
This new edition is the first complete reprint of William Tyndale's pioneering translation of the New Testament from Greek into English. Not much larger in format than the original edition, it presents Tyndale's works in the original spelling. It has been transcribed and edited by Dr. W.R. Cooper, and has an introduction by David Daniell, author of the acclaimed biography of Tyndale and Chairman of the Tyndale Society.
At last readers will be able to get close to Tyndale's original words. This is a major publishing enterprise for the new millenium.
