"For over 700 years, Dingwall has been one of the smallest Royal Burghs in the United Kingdom, barely having a population of over 3,000. Even so, the town has a remarkable history, having connections to may famous Scotsmen throughout that period. Macbeth resided in the castle of Dingwall in the 12th C. at a time when the north of Scotland was still being overlooked by Norway and greatly influenced Norsemen. During the reign of David I half the population of Dingwall was Norse, half Celtic. It was in Dingwall that William, 4th Earl of Ross, mustered his men for Bannockburn, and afterwards Robert the Bruce made frequent visits to the castle. However it was not until1674 when the Parish Kirk Session records begin that the full story of the Burgh is known.". Bookseller Inventory # 16707
