He writes in an interesting manner, identifying that famous conflict as only the beginning of the Norman conquest of England. Little Bighorn clearly traces the roots of the war to racism and the unjust treatment of Native Americans. Further, Steele points out that Custer helped to initiate the war by leading 1200 soldiers into the Black Hills, which the U. S. government officially recognized as Indian land. The volume covers the history of the region, soldiers and weapons, various Indian customs, and the repercussions of the war. Plentiful maps, illustrations, and photos complement the text.
