The text defines what constitutes a good executive and maps out the course from manager to executive combined with information on how to develop abilities such as co-ordination and delegation. The author has also written "Running Things", "Quality is Free", "The Eternally Successful Organization" and "Let's Talk Quality". A cassette is available to accompany the book.

Crosby, author of Quality Is Free ( LJ 2/15/79), Quality Without Tears ( LJ 4/1/84), and Let's Talk Quality ( LJ 4/1/89), has branched out into leadership. His book is filled with aphorisms like, "It is easy for executives to come to the conclusion that they are the beginning and the end of everything that is happening," or "Running a corporation is too important to be left up to the functional departments." This work does not deal with principles of leadership as much as it is a platform for Crosby to communicate his views. For the individual who would like an in-depth or well-researched view of leadership, John Kotter's The Leadership Factor ( LJ 1/88), Warren Bennis's Leaders ( LJ 4/1/85), or Bennis's On Becoming a Leader ( LJ 8/89) would be better choices.
