About the Author:
Marco Livingstone has organized touring retrospective exhibitions of R. B. Kitaj, Jim Dine, Tom Wesselmann, Duane Michals, David Hockney, and Pop art. His many publications include David Hockney in World of Art.
From Library Journal:
Published to accompany a major exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, this catalog explores the international manifestations and continuing influences of Pop Art. Essays discuss the general nature of Pop Art as well as specific American, British, and Continental contributions. One essay covers the anti- establishment movement Fluxus, which flourished concomitantly with Pop Art in the Sixties, and an excellent concluding essay by Dan Cameron looks at the lingering tradition of Pop Art in the Eighties' assemblage of "neo-isms." Accompanying each chapter is a useful "anthology of sources" that excerpts statements by the artists themselves as well as both positive and negative critical reaction. Summary biographies are provided for 62 artists. The catalog supplements editor Livingstone's Pop Art: A Continuing History ( LJ 11/1/90), which covers much the same territory. With 309 illustrations, 196 in color. Recommended for art libraries and strong collections of contemporary art.-- Martin R. Kalfatovic, Natl. Museum of American Art/Natl. Portrait Gallery Lib., Smithsonian Inst., Washington, D.C.
