What happens when government fiscal mismanagement, resource wars, peak oil, overpopulation, high unemployment and an unexpected shocking and sudden wave of bank failures converge and descend at the same time? It just could mean unimaginable chaos.  Written for readers of all ages, this riveting apocalyptic novel tells the exciting story of a young Asian American woman starting another routine, early-morning shift at a downtown Portland, Oregon, Starbucks. She finds, as the warm summer morning progresses, that the nation's economy has completely and utterly collapsed and there is absolutely nothing the government or anyone can do about it. The chaos, fear, and horrifying depravation that immediately follow start in the first chapter and move like lightning throughout the entire fast-paced book.  Shut Down portrays her journey to seek safety, first for herself, then later for her family as they all flee for their very survival across the Sandy River and into the close-knit, rural farmlands of Corbett, Oregon, where they must work long hours and fight hard as they strive to establish a harsh, new life. **  Buck, a sequel to  Shut Down, is also available on Amazon.   Buck continues the action and adventure story of Corbett, Oregon, as the town struggles to survive two years after the economic collapse. This new novel introduces a severely wounded outsider, Michael "Buck" Baccellieri, who arrives in town at the same time as a desperate band of killers.
** First Journey, is the third story of the Corbett colony. During their fourth winter they send a small band of explorers on a journey into the depopulated ruins of Portland, Oregon. On the outskirts of downtown they encounter a small group of survivors who have learned to distrust and fear strangers, defending their surroundings with deadly force. **  Stone Warriors, is the fourth story of the Corbett colony. At the start of the eleventh summer after the worldwide economic collapse, the community faces a harsh and unforgiving crisis.

From the Author:

The idea behind this novel began to develop in 2010 as the Fed was embarking on yet another in a series of massive money-printing schemes. I began to wonder what would happen if these schemes didn't work and, combined with the impact of peak oil and the nation's involvement in more and more foreign military actions, only made America's increasingly dire economic situation much worse? That question was the spark behind writing this book. Let's all hope that the economic calamity portrayed in this novel will never occur.

About the Author:

W. R. Flynn is a community activist and volunteer who lives in Troutdale, Oregon. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1983 with a BA in History and earned his Masters in Education from Western Washington University in 1989. He is now retired after a professional background in law enforcement and secondary education. In the early 1980s he travelled throughout Eastern Europe and the USSR and in 1985 he spent a month in Cuba working on a communal farm. He has also travelled extensively with his family, spending considerable time in Singapore with numerous side trips to Malaysia, Thailand, Ireland, Japan and Hong Kong.
