Archaeologist Duncan Rigby thinks he’s finally struck it rich when he discovers a trunk of legendary jewels, buried 300 years ago by exiled priests in a remote Mexican mountain range. But he’s not the only one on the trail of the famous Jesuit Treasure... Rumors of the find have brought a wave of fortune hunters onto Baja’s southern shores ― and that in turn attracts the attention of Atticus Fish, the expatriate American billionaire with a knack for getting caught up in other people’s troubles. When Rigby goes missing, Fish fires up his seaplane and enlists Baja’s infamous bootlegger, Skegs, to join him in his search for the missing archaeologist ― and a treasure so beguiling men will kill to possess it. A blistering joyride across the badlands of southern Baja, El Dorado Blues comes on like a shot of tequila on a hot summer day: smooth, with a powerful finishing kick.

About the Author:

Shaun Morey is the best-selling author of the Incredible Fishing Stories series and a contributor to magazines and newspapers worldwide. He won the inaugural Abbey-Hill short-story contest and is a three-time winner of the Los Angeles Times novel-writing contest. Over the years, he has worked as a bartender, a fishmonger, a surf instructor, and an attorney while secretly planning his own escape into the badlands of Baja California.

From Booklist:
Atticus Fish—the attorney who sued God, won, and then retreated with his millions to a sand castle in Baja—is back, and this time he’s landed in the middle of an even crazier caper than the one he engineered in Wahoo Rhapsody (2011). Atticus’ friend, the beguiling Toozie, asks for his help in tracking down a missing archaeologist, Digby Rigby, who has disappeared in a particularly foreboding mix of mountains and desert in the Baja interior. So begins an outlandish treasure hunt: Digby is on the trail of the legendary Jesuit Treasure, Baja’s version of El Dorado, but unlike the thousands who came before him, he’s found it—and promptly lost it, of course. That’s only the beginning; the treasure changes hands multiple times as Atticus and crew cavort about Baja, on land, sea, and in the air, attempting to secure the treasure or, alternatively, avoid its curse. Naturally, there’s a bizarre crew of bad guys on the scene, including one very bad lady with a Howard Hughes thing about germs. None of it makes much sense, but that’s half the fun in Morey’s tequila-fueled comic caperville. --Bill Ott
