Text dt. und engl. - Mit seiner grossen Ausstellung 1980 in der Kunsthalle Basel, für die er auf Einladung Jean-Christophe Ammanns in sieben Erdgeschossräumen des Hauses "Wohnung bezogen" hat, um "in ihnen die ganze Welt unterzubringen, das Bild des Ganzen", erreicht der automatistische, dem tänzerischen Dripping Pollocks vergleichbare Zug in Dislers Arbeit in der Schweiz, in der Bundesrepublik, in Holland, Osterreich und Italien eine sprichwörtliche Dimension. Anerkennend vermerkt die Presse die "erstaunliche Sicherheit im Umgang mit den grossen Flächen".1981, als Disler nach vier durchmalten Nächten im Württembergischen Kunstverein Stuttgart ein 141 Meter langes und 4,40 Meter hohes Wandbild mit dem Titel "Die Umgebung der Liebe" als Ausstellung übergibt, wird sein Werk als Beginn einer Kunst gelobt, "die Reflexion und Spontaneität zusammenbringt". In dem autobiographischen Büchlein "Bilder vom Maler", das 1980 nach der Basler Ausstellung während einer Schiffsfahrt entstanden ist, kommen gleichwohl die anhaltenden Sorgen, Selbstzweifel sowie ein Zorn darüber zum Vorschein, was ein Künstler alles auf sich nehmen muss. Die gesammelten kurzen Texte behandeln, oftmals in indirekter Rede wie in Romanen von Thomas Bernhard, die Schwierigkeit und Sinnlosigkeit des Malens. ISBN 3893222375.
