Description:

1st Printing. Signed. Unpaginated. Published in 2007. Retrospective collection of male "pin-up" portraits and nudes. One of the finest erotic art photography books of the decade. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. A brilliant production by Aaron Cobbett: Oversize-volume format. Thick pictorial hard boards with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Aaron Cobbett. Essay, "Packaging The Body: Aaron Cobbett's Testosterone Transformations", by Doug McClemont. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in Italy to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Published on the occasion of the first retrospective exhibition of the same name held at the Wessel O'Connor Fine Art Gallery New York from October 18 through November 24, 2007. Presents "Aaron Cobbett". Some of the finest and most representative portraits of masculinity and nudity by the descendant of both Pierre et Gilles and David LaChapelle. Like his principal influences, Cobbett is a brilliant colorist, and some of the very best images in the book are his homage-renditions of turn-of-the-century portraits in "tinted" color, beautifully appended as one coda-sequence at the end. His portraits and nudes share a fascinating and singular twist: He has clothed all of his subjects in the most glamorous and most over-the-top outfits while paradoxically showing as much skin as any other male nude photographer: The portraits are nudes; the nudes are portraits. They combine the formalistic, iconography-inspired oeuvre of Pierre et Gilles with the brash, free-wheeling, and multifaceted work of LaChapelle, a rigorous European "frame" to an aggressive American "energy". They are openly gay in their sensibility and profoundly indebted to the early Physique and Colt Magazines in their unabashed celebration of the male form and its prototypical masculine icons: The cowboy, film star, fashion model, bodybuilder, and athlete/jock as well as their underground counterparts: The stripper, hustler, porno star, and rent boy. Cobbett's work has appeared in various magazines in the United States as well as Europe, and he now divides his time between the two continents. Sir Elton John, the world's single most important private collector of erotic art photography, owns all of the photographs in the present collection, and more. Cobbett cultivates a personal relationship with his handsome models: "Among his many achievements, Aaron Cobbett is justifiably proud of having introduced more than a handful of straight guys to the anti-gravitational magic of the cock ring" (Doug McClemont). An absolute "must-have" title for Aaron Cobbett collectors. This copy is very boldly and beautifully signed, placed, and dated (in the month and year of publication) in black pen-marker on the title page by the photographer: "Aaron Cobbett NYC 11/07". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is now collectible. As far as we know, this is the only such signed and dated copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. A rare signed copy thus. 90 color plates. One of the most brilliant photographers of the male form of our time. A flawless copy. ISBN 2845471467. Bookseller Inventory # 12761
