In beautiful publisher's original full crimson crushed morocco binding, gilt titles, decorations, embossed motifs on both front and rear boards, inner dentelles, silk endpapers, all edges gilt. (12" x 17"). The first one volume "India Proofs, Lettered" edition, later expanded to three volumes. 187 text pages, plus lavishly illustrated by 60 photogravures each finely printed on India proof paper and mounted on heavy stock; 28 Engraving on wood printed seperately from text (one folding) ; and 189 Engravings on wood inserted in the text. A sumptiously bound volume, featuring fine reproductions of the art held in public and private collections of the day, including Astor, Borie, Belmont, Corcoran, Cutting, et. al. Lower corner of front free endpaper chipped, corners lightly bumpted, else a very good copy being internally clean, and showing minimal exterior rubbing and wear.
