Hugh Ruttledge (1884-1961) was part of the English Civil Service in India who explored the southern Himalayas during the 1920s and early 1930s before leading the first of his two expeditions to climb Mount Everest in 1933 reaching 8,570 meters. The second attempt was in 1936 reaching only 7,000 meters. In 1934 he received the Royal Geographical Society Gold Medal for his explorations in the Himalayas. The book is a full account of the 1933 expedition covering all facets of the climb. Very good clean copy. Bookseller Inventory # 13624
