Description:

Vintage original 8 x 10" (20 x 25 cm.) double weight glossy sepia toned silver gelatin print still photo, USA. Boris Karloff, Melvyn Douglas, Charles Laughton, Lilian Bond, Raymond Massey, Gloria Stuart, dir: James Whale; Universal. Highly atmospheric, with the tension slowly building, is this story of people trapped in a house during a rainstorm. Much of the horror was provided by Morgan, a scarred, brutish butler who is also a mute. Boris Karloff played it to the hilt under James Whale's direction, and it is amongst his most memorable horror characterizations. Universal's great portrait photographer Freulich captured the horror and vulnerability of Karloff as Morgan in this still. His ink stamp is on the verso, as is the original attached and typed paper blurb. Neatly trimmed for publication. There are tiny pinholes at the top left corner, a scratch in the black near the bottom left corner and pinholes at the top and bottom right corners all in the blank white margin. ABOUT FINE.
