Book Description: Pantheon Books. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1135684251 Dust jacket condition: No Jacket. 16 color plates. Includes separate paperbound supplement (as new) in pocket inside rear cover. Bookstore stamps at long pages edge and endpapers. Text free of underlining, writing and highlighting. Solid, clean copy. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS Our first acknowledgment should be to the Navaho who composed Beautyway and to those individuals who patiently dictated its myths and revealed its sandpaintings for the recorders: Singer Man of Deer Spring, Wilito Wilson of Mariano Lake, Hastin Gani of Beautiful Valley, and numerous others. Father Berard Haile, with characteristic quick generosity, made available his text and translation of the Beauty-way myth and his translation of the Jicarilla Apache Holiness Rite when he heard of the plan for this book. Mrs. Franc J. Newcomb has co-operated liberally, allowing the use of her reproductions of Beautyway sandpaintings as illustrations (Fig. 7; Plates VIII-XI and XV) and providing information about them. Miss Mary C. Wheelwright kindly gave permission for the use of Beautyway paintings in the Museum of Navajo Ceremonial Art at Sante Fe (Figs. 2, 3, 4; Plates II, IV, V, XII). Through the courtesy of the Taylor Museum of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and Mr. George Mills, we were able to reproduce one of the paintings in the Huckel Collection (Plate XVI). We are indebted also to the late Dr. Gladys A. Reichard for permission to quote freely from her distinguished works on Navaho religion. We ship our books in CorgiPack mailers except for unusually large books and multiple books orders. CorgiPack mailers are constructed with a B-flute corrugated fiberboard pad which provides cushioning and corner protection in transit. They're also 100% recyclable.
