Book. 24 pp of poster sized (26 by 19 inches nearly) illustrations of early Sally Dick and Jane reader, "We Look and See", which is the first Pre-Primer of the Basic Readers. With also Puff and Spot. There are here six stories of the seven that were originally issued in this binder, intended as a teacher's tool, with the teacher reading from the binder, which has flaps on the back and front boards to convert the whole thing into an easel. The so-called stories are each four pages of slowly (very slowly) graduating sophistication, all of which are indelibly imprinted on the minds of Americans growing up from the forties onward. Whether or not those memories are fond or dismissive ones, few will not be smitten with the illustration art, which, albeit non-challenging, is well-done and disarming. There is gentle humor in the illustrations that might have not been appreciated by the intended audience who were taxed with the task of learning and who were unlikely to find juvenile foibles quite so risible. The condition of this binder would be fine but for the missing installment. All the pages would look great as a display piece. Only the last page has some light soilage, and it is nonetheless still attractive. The black binder too has the lightest of wear but is miraculously very solid and sound. The shipping cost provided automatically by ABE assumes that the item is the size of an average hardcover book. Since our stock is comprised largely of material which is bigger and heavier, we will often need to request additional shipping charges as a result. We pride ourselves on always packing safely, with the actual materials and method of packing depending on the item(s), where it is going, and with whom we are shipping. We most frequently use the post office, but on some high value items, or upon request, we may use alternatively UPS or FedEx. With the postal service, to domestic destinations with lower value items and the automatically furnished ABE shipping quote, we will usually use Media Mail; on higher value items we are partial to Priority or Express Mail. We will always seek to comply with a customer's wishes if they are communicated to us. When we seek additional shipping charges, we pass along those charges at our cost -- we do not add for handling or materials generally.
