Title: The Birth of Washington, A Poem: In Two ...
Publisher: Printed by Daniel Fanshaw, New York
Publication Date: 1822
Book Condition: Fair
Edition: First Edition.
Printed wraps, though only rear cover is preserved (see below); 4to, 228 x 285 mm; pp. 16. Foxed; wrinkled and chipped along the edges; contemporary ownership signature on verso of title-p., bleeding through to title-p.; flattened crease across the middle from folding, and closed-tear at the fore-edge along this crease. But, nice wide margins, so text is unscathed. "Washington's Birth-Day" Written by Mr. Samuel Woodworth and Sung by Mr. Lamb at Washington Hall, City of New York is printed on the rear cover; with some light chipping along the aforementioned flattened crease, infringing upon the legibility of a single line of text (fifth line, second stanza). A scarce item -- and tho it ain't pretty, it's certainly worthy of preservation. Brown was a minister who later became a Swedenborgian, and a dentist. Amongst his achievements is the authorship of the only epic poem on the health and preservation of teeth, published in 1833. Bookseller Inventory # LD7820
