In order to maintain the soil quality of forested land and to protect it from acidic entry, dolomitic lime is regularly employed in areas in need of buffering. However, in view of the vision of sustainability and against the background of recycling management, implementation of waste materials or so-called secondary raw materials have also proven to be suitable candidates for dolomite substitutes This book seeks to analyse the economic and ecological efficiency of using mixtures from several secondary raw materials as buffer substances by applying the research steps of an eco-efficiency PROSA (Product Sustainability Assessment). The results of this study show that several secondary raw material mixes can indeed compete ecologically with dolomite and, after several improvements in production process, also economically withstand the competition in this market.
