His work included acting as assistant to Cesare Battisti, editor of IL POPOLO and its weekly suuplement LA VITA TRENTINA. This romantic story was apparently written as a serial in the magazines and was popular with readers . but this aspect of his career ended when he wrote one day in IL POPOLO that "the frontier of Italy does not end at Ala" (the local frontier station), and was promptly put in gaol for the night and deported.
