Book Description: Pjenesis Press, Vancouver, 1996. Soft Cover. Book Condition: Very Good ++. First Edition. SUBTITLED : ` Recipes and Remedies for Human Sacrifice '. This title is very tongue in cheek -WHOOPS - that too is a slip - what the work deals with is the sacrifice of humanity by non-lethal means. Its a psychology (see Cultural Anthropology) text not a cookbook. The tone of the work is BEST summarized by the comparison (in Recipe # 16) between `cargo cults' on the island of Tanna and the Canadian system of political parties. A S-T-R-E-T-C-H you say - maybe, but read it . The author takes pairs of words like serve and servitude (art and artifice, type and stereotype) and builds explanations around them that show the loss of our humanity. She compares the comorants of Japanese fishermen to Japanese businessmen - both tied about the neck and unable to swallow. The setting for (half of) these stories is often Fiji -where true cannabalism was once practiced. See for example `Bite Your Tongue' about pidgin English on page 92. Mixes humour and contemplation. Cond : Paper wrapper is purple with day-glo pink lettering. Binding tight, minimal soiling. No names, marks, tears nor bumps. At least ONE soft corner. Spine fine, colours bright !! Excellent reading copy !! Quote (p. 91) : `" . those women in the television audience who yearn to be `mannequins in their own image ' who rush out and buy the products to enhance what nature did - or who have cosmetic surgery to correct what nature did not - well , eat your hearts out too !
