The interior is in good condition, except for the rear of the front and back cover that shows some yellowing.Good readable copy.;"The museum collection of archaic Chinese jade is of recent development: but it is now probably the largest and most representative in Europe, numbering about 500 pieces. This is almost entirely due to acquisitions from three private collections which had been formed during the 1920s and 1930s. In 1937-8 268 jades reached the Museum as part of the George Eumorfopoulos collection, which was purchased with help from the National Art Collections Fund and numerous friends of the Museum; this was followed by the munificent bequests of Oscar Raphael, who died in 1941, and of Harry Oppenheim, who died in 1947.(.) The 145 pieces illustrated in the plates have been selected to exhibit all the principal shapes, and the styles of cutting and decoration in use up to the end of the Han period (220 A.D.), by which time the evolution was complete. Since stylistic criteria provide, in most cases, the only evidence for dating, previous attributions of the pieces described have been included. No jade vessels are included, because there is none in the collection which can be ascribed to so early a date. Indeed a wine-cup found in the Chin Ts'un tombs is the only vessel known which has any documentation." excerpt from the preface by Basil Gray, Keeper of Oriental Antiquities of the British Museum, February 1950.
