Pale green cloth, with brown decoration. Everything between the front board and the final plate is completely detached and loose, but all seems to be present. Title page reads: "The Civil Costume of England, from the conquest to the present time. Drawn from tapestries, monumental effigies, illuminated manuscripts, portraits, etc. by Charles Martin. Etched by Leopold Martin. To which is added Hope's Costumes of the Ancients, 25 plates." Dedication to Prince Albert. 61 plates present, as called for in the list at the front, and 25 of ancient costume etc, not all with name of Hope, most, but not all, of costume. The cloth is quite worn; the plates, apart from a very few slight thumbmarks, some small corner creases, and two or three worn fore-edges, are in good condition. PLATES ARE UNCOLOURED. 6"x 10".
