This is a very good set of the 22-volume set in their original cream cloth bindings. Volume 1 has been signed by the publisher and by Hawthorne's daughter, Rose Hawthorne Lathrop. Additionally, each frontis was signed in pencil by the illustrator, including such big names as Childe Hassam and Howard Pyle. Other illustrators include Jessie Wilcox Smith, Anna Whelan Betts, Alice Stephens, Sarah Stilwell, Arthur Keller, Edmund Garrett, Maud Cowles, Emlen McConnell, Albert Herter, B. West Clinedinst and Ross Turner, F.C. Yohn, Eric Pape, Jules Guerin, Frederick McCormick, Mary Ayer, E.C. Peixtto, Harry Fenn, Frank T. Merrill. The books are in very good condition, with very minor soiling to the covers, iight wear to the spine labels and an owner's bookplate on the inside of each front cover that has left a bit of an imprint on each front end page. Included is the 1902 limited edition biography of Hawthorne by George Woodberry that was limited to 600 copies. Bookseller Inventory # 30
