Bibliographic Details

Title: A Cool Million: The Dismantling of Lemuel ...

Publisher: Covici Friede Publishers, New York, New York

Publication Date: 1934

Binding: Hardcover

Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good

Edition: First Edition

Description:

229 pages; expertly bound in full leather with raised bands and gilt lettering on the spine. Interior is very good with no marks. The story is a satire on the Horatio Alger "myth" of success. The main character, Lemuel Pitkan is a 'schlemiel' in life, despite losing everything, health and life, he remains optimistic and gullible to the very end. Published in an edition of 3,000 copies it received mixed reviews and poor sales and was not reprinted during the author's lifetime. West also wrote a screenplay by the same name which he sold to Columbia Pictures. It was never produced. A very good copy of this scarce novel. Bookseller Inventory # 12021
