700 and 575 [sic, actually 569] pages. With indexes. The first volume covers the convention held at Sioux Falls, in September 1885. The second volume is dedicated to the convention of July 1889, held in the same city. The 1885 convention was unsuccessful in obtaining statehood for Dakota so a second convention was held in 1889, which split the territory into two states. Bound in half tan sheep with marbled paper. Title spine labels in gilt on black and red morocco. Edges rubbed and worn, with minor loss to the leather at the spines. This is one of 'one thousand sets' ordered by the state legislature of South Dakota, to be 'printed and substantially bound in half sheep binding.' This set has the ownership signature of E. L. Stavig (1888-1965), a member of the South Dakota State Senate from 1939 to 1947. Bookseller Inventory # 48742
