El principal punto de referencia es una ofrenda encontrada recientemente en el centro ceremonial de Cahuachi: un conjunto de 27 antaras, o flautas de Pan, elaboradas en arcilla y finalmente decoradas. Este hallazgo es excepcional tanto en el campo de la arqueologeia como en el de la musicología, a nivel mundial. La calidad tecnológica y artística sobresaliente de estos intrumento testimonia la gran importancia que se atribuía a sus cualidades sonoras. Por otro lado, el contexto sacrifical del hallazgo, asociado al cierre ritual deun conjunto ceremonial, patentiza el significado simbólico de dichos objetos en la cosmovisón nasca. Estas evidencias constituyen el punto de partida para un nuevo planteamiento del papel de la música y las actividades sonoras entre los antiguos habitantes de la costa sur del Perú.
