EVANGLELINE, A TALE OF ACADIE - Illustrated By DARLEY in -FIRST EDITION THUS in VERY GOOD+ Condition, by Longfellow, #3152, VG+/no dj, $58 This FIRST EDITION THUS is in VERY GOOD+ condition, especially after over 140 years old. Copyright is listed as 1866 on top of copyright page but title page has 1867, however there is a brown ink inscription to previous owner at top of first free page dated Christmas 1866 confirming BAL 12496 that this is a First Edition Thus. Book is in Very Good+ condition with dark green textured cloth binding with gilt-stamped decoration and text in middle of front board bright As New. Decoration is diamond shaped with floral decorations around text "Longfellow's EVANGELINE Illustrated by DARLEY. All three outside edges dyed bright gilt also almost as new. Boards have beveled edges, back board has same decoration blind-stamped in middle; and spine is almost completely filled with intricate bright gilt decorations around lettering. Book's spine tips and corners are gently bumped and lightly worn and there is very mild soiling with boards looking Near Fine. Dark brown endpapers surround very solid hinges with hinges just barely starting (1/4" each -front hinge at bottom & rear hinge at top) otherwise binding and insides are tight, bright and clean. Other than aforementioned inscription there are NO other previous owner's or library markings and there is only minor foxing sporadically. This handsome, scarce and collectible book by HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW is illustrated with 10 illustrations including title page and decorations throughout text by F.O.C. DARLEY.
