Description:

1st Printing. Signed. Unpaginated. Published in 1999. Rare Evgeny Kissin collectible item. A pristine copy of the historic DVD recording, "Evgeny Kissin: The Gift of Music", signed by Evgeny Kissin. The film is written, narrated, and directed by Christopher Nupen, one of the world's finest documentary directors on great classical performers. This is the DVD's true First Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with the subsequent 2014 printing. The First Edition DVD is now rare. Presents "The Gift of Music" for posterity. One of the greatest recitals ever given by a pianist in history: Evgeny Kissin at the Royal Albert Hall Promenade Concert ("The Proms") in August 1997. The music includes wrist-breaking pieces by Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, and Liszt, among others, as well as the complete recording of an unprecedented eight encores. Includes an illuminating Interview with the intensely private (and surprisingly witty) genius/artist as well as archival footage of Kissin's performances with such fellow-greats as the violinist Gidon Kremer. Kissin is identified with the music of Chopin more than any other composer (his repertoire is vast and constantly expanding), putting him firmly in a "genealogical" line with Artur Rubinstein and Maurizio Pollini, his two predecessor-pianists, with whom he has the most in common: Greatness. Like Rubinstein and Pollini, Kissin's playing of Chopin definitively has not prevented him from playing just about everybody else beautifully. Kissin's discography is now vast. Still, this DVD of the young and charismatic pianist occupies a very special place in his body of recorded work. An absolute "must-have" collectible, not just memorabilia, item for Evgeny Kissin collectors. This copy of the DVD is very boldly and beautifully signed in black pen-marker by Evgeny Kissin. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a DVD classic, one of the greatest films on music of our time. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy of this historic DVD recording available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: This is a copy of the original DVD release and should not be confused with the 2014 subsequent printing, which has no collectible value. A rare signed copy thus. The greatest pianist of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER EVGENY KISSIN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 6305785023. Bookseller Inventory # 17977
