No. 73 in the Zamorano Eighty, 1945, "This work by an eminent writer and artist is probably the outstanding book on the early gold rush in California". Bayard Taylor (1825-1878) was a successful translator and travel writer. He traveled to California at the height of the Gold Rush as a correspondent for the New York Tribune.
