"Containing an historical account of the introduction of the manufacture, its effects upon the employments, dress, food, health, morals, social intercourse, &c., of the inhabitants of the several towns in which it has been carried on." The essay is attributed to Doctor Samuel Standley of Attleborough, Massachusetts, in the Transactions of the Rhode Island Society for the Encouragement of Domestic Industry (1858): 167.
