About the Author:

Captain Donald L Van Dyke is an independent air transport and safety consultant. Formerly Director, Operations, International Air Transport Association (IATA), he served on several International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) expert panels. Prior to this, he was an instructor pilot / type rating examiner at Comair Ltd and headed corporate safety.


His early work began with Sierra Research Corporation as a design engineer involved with navigation, guidance and radar systems as well as the world´s first commercial weather modification project. He later became President and CEO of Command Airways SA, the first helicopter airline in Africa.


He is a noted author and an invited speaker on management, legal, safety, operational and technical subjects. A veteran pilot, Don has over 18,000 hours flying a variety of jet and turboprop airliners and helicopters.


He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS), a Senior Member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and a Member of the University Aviation Association (UAA).
