Book Description Doubleday and Company, Inc., 1968. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. George J. Zaffo (illustrator). 1st Edition. The Giant Nursery Book of How Things Change(How You Change Things, How the Wind Changes Things, How the Water Changes Things, How the Sun Changes Things, How Man Changes Things), Written and Illustrated by George J. Zaffo, was published by Doubleday and Company, Inc., Garden City, New York, in 1968. Not an ex-library copy, this 9" X 12", 185-page, 45-year-old, First Edition offering is in VG+/G+ condition. The book is, for the most part, like new. There is a 3" X 3 3/4", rather attractive Bookplate attached in the upper-left corner of the front loose end page, and that same owner's name is stamped, in light red, 1/8"-high letters near upper-left corner of blank page adjacent to Dedication Page(proudly, I'm certain, stating that this book is dedicated to Pratt Institute and its staff by a member of the class of 1937). The dust jacket shows, naturally, more physical wear, but is still, from end to end, in overall very nice, clean shape. There is fairly noticeable shelf wear at top and bottom edges of jacket's spine. From front inside jacket flap, "Here is another Giant Nursery Book full of fascinating basic facts about earth science, meteorology, and the cycles of nature. The factors that bring about changes are many. Both natural forces and man himself are constantly altering our earth. Water wears away the rock or turns a dynamo. The sun melts glaciers or helps plants grow green. The wind blows away the topsoil or fills the sails of a boat. Changes made by man may be just as great. He can irrigate the land, widen harbors, build roads and bridges. And he can change small things: the direction in which he walks, the clothes he wears, even his mind. This book tells about these changes in simple words and big, clear pictures designed to satisfy the curiosity of even the youngest questioners." Indeed, this over-sized volume is fairly saturated with large drawings, a decent number in bright, solid colors, and the majority executed in shades of gray, black, and white. It would seem, Reader, that the author, a product of Bridgeport, Connecticut, was seemingly predicting and exploring areas which have since become ongoing/persistent topics for heated debate between, generally speaking, the Right and the Left. NOTE: The text is presented in big, bold, black lettering for the youngest of readers/listeners. Thank you!!. Bookseller Inventory # 006660
