Title: Fine Hand-Painted French Bolting Cloths
Publisher: n.d. (late-10th or early-20th century?), n.p. (but perhaps America)
Book Condition: Very Good+
Maroon cloth over boards (11.25 x 14.25 inches), gilt-stamped lettering on upper board; pp. , featuring 28 small (about 5x4 inches) and 36 large (8x8) hand-painted samples of bolding cloth, mounted at corners, and with laid-in tissue-guards. Postcard (printed in Germany, full-color floral motif) and 5 skeins of antique embroidery floss laid-in as well. Boards quite rubbed; spine tips and corners lightly bumped and frayed; hinges cracked, with binding somewhat shaken. Specimens, however, are in excellent condition, a few loose, but present, and carefully laid-in -- as such, removable, and suitable for display or rebinding. A beautiful collection of embroidery designs, hand-painted in full-color on silk bolting cloth (a very fine, nearly transparent material used by millers for sifting flour). The delicate and intricate designs include birds, flowers, butterflies and a few pastoral scenes. Pretty. Bookseller Inventory # D6846
