John Heckewelder (1743-1823) was a German Moravian Missionary among the Delaware of the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes. The accounts of the Delaware Indians during negotiations with the British and Americans are of great value for the view point of the natives. Ethnographic material on the tribes is of great use also.
