Slender 8vo hardcover in tan paper-covered boards with title in black bordered by scroll-work on front. Limited Edition. Good+/: paper backstrip missing(common for this title);general edgewear to boards including chips at bottom edge and scuffing along outer edges. Some light soiling to paper boards. Text itself overall clean with exception of foxing to one page. Edges of 8 pages show wear/chipping and page 29-30 has large tear but does not affect text. Rear foldout also exhibits chips to edge. Tipped-in Frontis of J.C. Berendsen with printed tissue guard; Plates; Foldout 36pp.*** The biography of J.C. Berendsen in conjunction with the business history of the California wholesale Millinery firm Hinz & Landt which he headed from 1889-1919. This volume was printed upon the 30th anniversary of his entering the firm. Included in the history are 3 tipped-in b/w plates with tissue guards of August C. Hinz; Frederick A. Hinz and a family portrait of the Berendsen family with printed tissue guard. Also includes a full-page color illustration of the Hinz & Landt trade mark, and a blue & green bordered prayer with crosses written 400 years ago by Lancelot Andrews which was a favorite of Mr. Berendsen: A fold-out at rear of the Hinz & Berendsen family tree and an employee list of both the San Francisco store on Market Street and the Los Angeles store on Broadway complete the firm's history.
