Foreward; Introduction; Bibliography; Index. 231pp. Subtitled 'A Short Introduction to the Study of Chinese Poetry with illustrative Translations,' this lovely little book covers Chinese poetry from c. 2300BC to 1911 (the end of Ch'ing period. ) Hart also includes short essays on the spirit & history of Chinese Poetry; Techniques of Chinese poetry; and problems of translations. (Please Note: Although this book is missing its original DJ, the previous owner(indeterminate) has crafted a truly unique dustwrapper to replace it. The DJ is textured gold paper embellished with six die-cut heavy paper devices which include a golden dragon & Ming vase on front, and a miniature cloth scroll with word 'China' in gilt on the spine. A fan and a smaller dragon's head-with 'jewels' for eyes-are on rear. Not the 'as issued' DJ certainly, but a very attractive substitute nonetheless.) Altogether a very lovely copy of an absolute treasure of a book. #1007hbr. Bookseller Inventory # ABE-842714402
