Description:

1st Printing. 3 pages. Published in . Joe Cali and Plato collectible set. Three (3) contemporary color photographic prints of Joe Cali, one of the most popular and sexiest male-nude models of our time, as photographed by Plato, the pseudonym of George Haimsohn. The prints measure 5 X 7 inches, are "bleed", and are original contemporary prints, reproduced on archival FujiColor photographic paper. Each is encased in a protective plastic sheet. Each photograph shows Joe Cali in a full-frontal nude shot, taken with subtle lighting, and subsequently hand-painted by the photographer, in order to heighten the gossamer, diaphanous effect of the "soft-focus" imagery. Their paradoxical mix of grittiness and poetry anticipates, without credit being given to Plato, the work of such photographers as Jack Pierson and Mark Morrisroe down to the props: A bed, a telephone, and a dimly lit room. Joe Cali was one of the iconic models of the last quarter of the 20th century. He also appeared in Hollywood films, most notably a role in "Saturday Night Fever". Plato sifted through his huge collection of negatives and slides and made prints of some of the hand-colored work. The images were originally shot in color. Plato had soluble color paints, which he applied by hand with a tiny brush and a magnifying glass, to give the images an otherworldly look. This painstaking process was not just artisanal, it was a visionary craftsman/artist working to realize his very personal vision of earthly Paradise. Joe Cali was photographed by several photographers based in the East Coast. A New Jersey native, he was discovered by Plato in Washington Square Park, New York City. Aside from Plato, he was also photographed by Vulcan, Model-of-the-Month Club, and Photozique Studios. This set comes from previously unpublished work that will finally appear in a long-overdue collection, "Uncovered: Rare Vintage Male Nudes" (published in Spring 2009). An absolute "must-have" collectible for Joe Cali and male erotic art photography collectors. These original contemporary color photographic prints are now collectible. As far as we know, this is the only set available online, is eminently suitable for framing, and has no flaws, pristine beauties. A rare set thus. One of the iconic American models of the 20th century. A flawless set. (SEE ALSO JOE DALESSANDRO AND BRUCE OF LOS ANGELES TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). Bookseller Inventory # 13914
