The First Edition is now scarce. An austerely elegant production by Jean-Francois Jonvelle and Marc Parent: Oversize-volume format in wide oblong shape. Black hard boards with titles on cover and spine. Photographs by Jean-Francois Jonvelle. There is minimal text. Stunning photographic endpapers. Printed in duotone on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in Germany to the highest standards. In pictorial DJ with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Presents, in one sumptuous volume, Jean-Francois Jonvelle's "Jonvelle (s) ". Some of the finest and most representative images by the photographer, many of them previously unpublished. It is scrupulously edited by Marc Parent, the author of "Stella" (who was Parent's mother, who was a great beauty and one of the first supermodels), and one of the finest American writer/editors of our time. Jonvelle is a sensitive, lifelong admirer/lover of female beauty whose personal sensibility harks all the way back to The Golden Age (in the same manner that Irving Penn, in his own inimitable way, does). Jonvelle trained to be a fashion photographer and was Avedon's assistant before he decided to strike out on his own. His style is probably best described as "French Classical": It is immaculate, subtle, and elegant. Yet it is also electrifying and ecstatic. The seductive portraits and nudes celebrate, reveal, and suggest (rather than exploit and devalue) the sinuous perfection and voluptuous beauty of the female form. This is a genuine achievement since exploitation is the norm in the work of most contemporary photographers of the female nude because the photographers are mostly men. Interestingly enough, the main tendency in contemporary male erotic art photography is the exact opposite: Worshipful and idealizing, which is just as revealing, but in a different way, in that it betrays the homosexuality of the also mostly male photographers. As the title suggests, these models represent and will be remembered as Jonvelle's radiant beauties. An absolute "must-have" title for Jean-Francois Jonvelle collectors. This title is a contemporary erotic art photography classic. This is one of very few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: Many copies available online have major flaws because they have been pored over again and again. A scarce copy thus. 170 duotones. One of the finest photographers of the female nude of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO "JEAN-FRANCOIS JONVELLE: MISTRESS" TITLE IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 1893263002. Bookseller Inventory # 15518
