Synopsis: A master photographer's 50-year love affair with his home city: "New York is a dream and a nightmare, beautiful and ugly, with thousands of wonderful special events...The light and the skyline can break your heart. The visual power is special, like no place on earth." Thus does photographer Jay Maisel introduce readers to the city he loves. Though he has been photographing New York since the 1950s, this is the first time he has published a collection of his favourites. Jay Maisel's New York is a compilation of 160 spectacular, full-colour images of the streets, buildings, landmarks, parades, celebrations, and festivals of New York. You'll see extraordinary shots and surprising details, all gleaned from a lifetime of being on the scene. But perhaps it is his striking pictures of its inhabitants that reveal the true heart of the city. Born in Brooklyn, Maisel's work can be seen in galleries, private collections, advertisements, magazines, and annual reports. A graduate of Cooper Union and Yale, where he studied painting, he is the recipient of the American Society of Media Photographers' (ASMP) Lifetime Achievement Award, the International Center of Photography's Infinity Award, and is in the Art Director's Hall of Fame.
